Laughter Wellness Sessions
Laughter Wellness Sessions, also known as Laughter Yoga, is a process that enables laughter, even when you don’t feel like it.
It is an aerobic exercise program that anyone can do, anywhere, at any time. Laughter yoga is a combination of fun laughter exercises, deep breathing from Yoga, rhythmic clapping, usually ending with a laughter mediation and guided relaxation.
Laughter is a tool for your happiness toolkit. When used, it will make you feel happier and healthier.
Laughter Yoga is based on a scientific fact – that the body cannot tell the difference between simulated laughter and real laughter.
Natural laughter comes for a few seconds here and there, occasionally a couple of minutes. This is not enough to bring about physiological and biochemical changes in our body. In order to get the scientifically proven health benefits of laughter, we need to laugh continuously for at least 15 to 20 minutes.
Natural laughter that happens throughout our life depends upon many reasons, conditions and the mood we are in. That means we are leaving laughter to chance – it may happen, it may not. In contrast, in Laughter Sessions, we do laughter as an exercise. We can prolong our laughter for as long as we want and can easily laugh for 20 minutes. We are not leaving laughter to chance, but doing it out of commitment. This is a guaranteed way of getting the health benefits of laughter.
Laughing with other people is so much fun too! For some people the simulated laughter soon becomes real laughter and that laughter becomes contagious. It is a great way of connecting and making new friends.
To maximise the health benefits of laughing, laughter has to be loud and deep and come from the diaphragm. It should be a belly laugh. It might not be socially acceptable to laugh loudly, but Laughter Sessions provide a safe environment where you can laugh loudly and heartily without any social implication.
During the Laughter Wellness Sessions, Tracey will give you tips and hints on how to get more laughter into your life. A laughter yoga session usually lasts 1 hour but shorter sessions are available.
